RICHES OF WISDOM

The national football league (NFL) is the most popular sport in the USA. In celebration of its 100 years, the NFL released a list of the 100 greatest game changers in this sport. Just getting into this list would require extraordinary talent and production, but leading the list with the title of the greatest game-changer was Paul Brown, famed coach of the Cleveland Browns and founder of the Cincinnati Bengals. Paul Brown was an innovator and he consistently blew away the minds of others around him with the introduction of new things to football. For instance he started the practice of scripted plays, where on the drawing board, he would plan for a role for multiple players- be it distraction, blocking or deception while the play was being carried out. This was a far cry from big men going at it merely physically at each other trying to get a score. For football as a sport, the riches of wisdom that he brought to the field is what earned him that prestigious title.

The Bible reminds us that God consistently blows us away with a demonstration of his riches of wisdom.

Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!

“Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?”

“Who has ever given to God, that God should repay them?” For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen. (Romans 11:33-36)

The thinking of God is vastly superior to that of man. While man plans for events and challenges using his limited mind, God consistently intervenes and demonstrates a superior way of thinking. Time and time again, man looks back at his life and how things panned out to see the hand of God having worked out a much better outcome than what he imagined. God’s eternal nature enables him to see the distant future and the present at the same time and intervene appropriately, while man lives out his life within the framework of time. His infinite ability overcomes obstacles that are seemingly too difficult and creates pathways for man to move forward and accomplish his goals.

The apt response to the riches of wisdom that are found in God is to enjoy his sovereignty, submit to his will and stick to him. When man acknowledges the supremacy of God and his sovereignty, he is able to participate in the infinite riches of the wisdom of God. He stops working out his own smart ideas, rather waits for God’s will in obedience and submission. And in closely communicating with God using the resources of the Word of God and prayer in the name of Christ, he is able to discern the mind of God and align himself to the divine destiny.

Worship follows as our minds are blown away by what God can do.
