THE POWER WITHIN

‘Fear is the path to the dark side, fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering’.

For all the Stars Wars fans, this quote by Yoda is familiar. Many can identify with the inner workings of a man’s soul as described here. And while the admonishment to overcome these is pronounced, it is harder said than done in a normal life. But the beauty of the Bible is that in Jesus’ commands, we also find enablement to carry them out. Listen to Paul, speaking on behalf of Christ,

“For though we live in this world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive each thought and make it obedient to Christ”. (2Corinthians 10:3-5)

The first and most important step is to realize that man cannot get stuck in the battle raging within his soul- his mind, emotions and will. He needs to realize that there is a battle that needs to be won within his deeper self- his spirit. Therefore a man who confines himself to the workings of the soul and wrestles with anger, fear and hate will seldom find complete freedom unless he goes deeper and finds the divine power unleashed within his spirit. When man chooses to believe and follow Christ, God’s spirit comes to dwell within the spirit of man- at his deepest core, and provides him with divine power to demolish strongholds. For one who lives in ignorance of this grand reality, life will always be a struggle. For one who recognizes this invaluable truth, freedom comes home.

This new revelation and power enables man to sift out everything that exalts itself against the knowledge of God and also to render them powerless. Then man is able to, if he chooses, to go beyond the entrapments of the soul and stride forth in freedom. Yoda’s words no longer become empty words uttered in the darkness of one’s soul, but made possible by the power of Christ within. And when this process is perfected by years of submission and practice, every thought falls in line with God’s own thoughts.

That is when man begins to walk in sync with God, to sing the tune of heaven, to go beyond the realm of the ordinary and receive a miracle every moment of his life.

We must be able to control our emotions and feelings. All that matters is God, and He should have an influence on the decisions we make.
