DIVINE FOUNDATION

An established businessman asks his son to go abroad to a distant country and start a branch of the father’s business. The son frets because he neither knows the language nor the customs of the people in this land, and he has to ostensibly start everything from scratch. However, when he arrives there, he is surprised to find that his father has already arranged an office, staff and resources ready for his use. All he needs to do is utilize the resources and execute.

Christian life is no different because God has already provided us everything we need. Peter says,

His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. (2 Peter 1:3,4)

Divine Calling: It is most reassuring to know that we did not choose him, rather he chose us and set us on this journey to be disciples. It begins with God and so we know that he will provide all we need for this journey.

Divine Promises: The guarantee of God’s provisions is his unchanging word. The world might fold up, but his word will not. Hence these promises are precious and a disciple clings to them more than he does to the valuable things of this world.

Divine Power: The One who promises is also able to fulfill his intent. God is neither weak regarding execution, nor does he delay in making good his promises. Through the joys, sorrows, victories and disappointments of life, the power of God shields and sustains us.

Divine Nature: The ultimate goal of this journey is not how much God has materially blessed us or what we have accomplished for God; rather to what extent have been able to unite with his nature which is the medium that nourishes this universe.

Now that the foundation already exists, we can build and do so with confidence.
