A DIFFERENT PATH

While the ways of the world are patterned around the natural inclinations of man (sinful nature), The Bible urges us to espouse a different, more difficult path. This is the path that is in line with the will of God, the path of wisdom. Solomon writes about this in Proverbs 3:1-10,

My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart,
for they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity.

Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.
Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil.
This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.

Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops;
then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.

What does it mean to follow this path? It involves keeping the commands of God in our heart and adhering to the teaching of God centered around faith, hope and love. It means being faithful to God and not wavering even when the going is tough. It means to trust God and not our own wisdom derived from the input of traditions and society, that attempts to mold us aways from the nature of God. Fearing God and submitting to Him rather than to evil, becomes a choice. God is given priority over all else and life becomes a life lived to honor him.

What are the consequences of espousing this path? Is it worth it? Peace, prosperity and longevity come home. Even as society increasingly descends into chaos and disorder, God’s disciple finds peace. Because this was how it was meant to be, good health and rejuvenation becomes a reality. When God is given priority and he is honored, the owner of all creation responds with prosperity and abundance. Your barns will be filled and your vats will overflow in God’s time. When God’s will is sought in faith, our paths are straightened and we are able to surge forward in life.

It certainly is a difficult path, but one that is worth pursuing.
