SECRET INFORMATION
June 6th, 1944 was the D-day when the allied forces landed at Normandy to begin the invasion of Nazi held Europe. This was the most decisive day of the World War 2 because if the landing troop were to be defeated, Europe would not be taken back. The Germans were expecting a landing- the destination of the landing though was not clear. The Allies worked out a most elaborate plan making the Germans believe that this landing would take place at Calais, the spot on the French coastline closest to Britain from where the troops would arrive. This plan involved creating fake tanks, landing vessels, decoy flights over Calais, a ghost army assembly, leaked messages from double agents indicating that the landing would be at Calais and even the information that the dreaded general Patton would lead this force at Calais. And while this deception was taking place, preparations were made in utmost secrecy for the landing at Normandy. So secret was this preparation, that any information passed on was to be read and destroyed immediately. The Germans fell for it and routed most of its available army to Calais whereas the landing did take place finally at Normandy where the Allies started the beginning of the end of the War.
Not all information is widely available. And perhaps the information that is hardest to get to is the secret wisdom of God. In creating this world, God has designed a system wherein the physical things are evident but the spiritual reality is mostly hidden. Yet this reality interacts and controls the physical reality we readily see and live in. A person who comes to know God personally through Christ receives an opening into this spiritual reality, because the Spirit of God comes to dwell within him.
No, we declare God’s secret wisdom, a wisdom that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. (1Corinthians 2:7)
This, then, is how you ought to regard us: as servants of Christ and as those entrusted with the mysteries God has revealed. (1Corinthians 4:1)
The extent to which such a person who has been given access, further progresses in this revelation depends on the interest and dedication he demonstrates in building a relationship with God. It would have been ‘convenient’ to just know the mind of God, because man in general has a lust for knowledge. But this secret knowledge comes with hard decisions one takes in his day-to-day life. A decision to read and master the word of God, decisions to deny himself the flesh and the worldly desires and a decision to spend time with God in prayer and meditation pave the way slowly, but surely to get access to the secret things of God.
Surely the Sovereign LORD does nothing without revealing his plan to his servants the prophets. (Amos 3:7)
And for those who do get access to God’s secret wisdom in a consistent fashion go on to accomplish great things for God. Consider this incredible story of Elijah.
Now the king of Aram was at war with Israel. After conferring with his officers, he said, “I will set up my camp in such and such a place.” The man of God sent word to the king of Israel: “Beware of passing that place, because the Arameans are going down there.” So the king of Israel checked on the place indicated by the man of God. Time and again Elisha warned the king, so that he was on his guard in such places. This enraged the king of Aram. He summoned his officers and demanded of them, “Tell me! Which of us is on the side of the king of Israel?” “None of us, my lord the king,” said one of his officers, “but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the very words you speak in your bedroom.” (2Kings 6:8-12)
Perhaps the story of Elisha being able to accurately glean what the king spoke might seem miraculous, but for one who had gotten to the stage of giving up everything like Elisha had for the sake of God, it was more routine than miraculous.
He who forms the mountains, who creates the wind, and who reveals his thoughts to mankind, who turns dawn to darkness, and treads on the heights of the earth— the LORD God Almighty is his name. (Amos 4:13)
Amos’ words also remind us that the One who reveals his secret thoughts to us is also the One who controls all things around us. Surely, no thought can be more reassuring than that!
